Movie Review Arisan2

I'm sorry but the last thing i want to spend my money on is Indonesian movie. I may sound like a snob, but considering the theme of Indonesian movies most likely revolve either cheapskate soft porn or horror (believe or not our local ghosts/spirits or whatever-you-called have evolved e.g "pocong ngesot", "arwah kuntilanak duyung" Yoohoo! Disney or Pixar maybe you can come to Indo for collaboration of Cartoon/Horror/Cheapskate Soft Porn movie called "the kinky little kuntilanak mermaid"),  or combination of both; I might as well gamble my money watching unknown foreign movies. Yes there are several outstanding Indonesian movies worth-watching like Garuda di Dadaku, Laskar Pelangi, etc. Blame it on my fluffy cotton/feather/dacron combination fillings of my head, I'd rather watch Indonesian movies on local channel if I still remember to switch channel while waiting for addictive series.

Ok so I was brought to watch the sequel of arisan! i.e. arisan!2 not to be confused with the kinky Arisan Brondong! (which is the bad example of Indonesian movie and No I didn't watch this movie)

I had watched the 1st arisan! movie. It was quite refreshing in a sense there was no other movie that brought up this socialite-type of movie in Indonesia. plus with a ground-breaking gay theme lol. So in the sequel of this movie, Nia Dinata brought up the importance of image in Indonesian society especially in the upper class society in this case. But that's only the surface beneath that there're other much more complicated matter and yes Kinkiness. What we considered twisted is not uncommon in our society. You can read Moammar Emka's Jakarta Undercover for reference how bizzare Jakarta can be. But sometimes I doubted how real the conditions written in his books. I mean he can just fabricate some stories just to make his books more interesting.

The overall story personally is not as exciting as the first one, but as Nia was still able to bring up some hush-hush topic in such a way it deserved my time and money.

Some points about this movie:

The gay brondong (played by Rio Dewanto) managed to steal the spotlight. However, his version of effeminate guy is not very convincing. In reality it's very hard to imagine this kind of trait in the gay context. it's like he's holding back. But like many brondong who likes to tweet here and there, take pictures whenever they can and then tweet it, his role is entertaining in a way.

Sarah Sechan, who's one of my favorite celebrities due to her wittiness, played dr Joy. Yes... she owned her part and created a personality for dr Joy. I'm expecting her witty remark when she played dr Joy but it wasn't there. Her acting is better than her role in Madame X.

Of all the senior actor available why did Nia have to choose Pong Hardjatmo? It's like he's playing the role of Om Gery half-heartedly. I can sense disgust radiating from him while acting. I thought Tio Pakusadewo would be better playing Om gery

dr Tom, played by Edward Gunawan. After spending some time in Singapore and lastly in United States I was expecting some hot heavy American accent for his role, but there was none. It's like this awkward accent that came out. But it's still not as painful as the mix indonesian-english with the prominent trilling  spoken by the socialites.

There's this threesome scene between Molly, Meimei, and dr Tom. It was beyond absurd. What the heck was that? what's their relationship? though Meimei did mention that the two are her friends

I remembered when Meimei went to Vesak celebration in Borobudur, Sakti mentioned that she's following something newage. Hello!!! since when Buddhism is a part of newage thingy. I agree if he's referring to her treatment in the island is considered newage, but not to Buddhism.

Dear Nia, of all the available hairstyle why do you have to choose Poni Lempar or maybe curtain hairstyle, which is a big turn off, for Tora. You don't have to pick this hairtyle in order to show how flamboyant Sakti can be.

that's all for today
XOXO
